Placement in Mathematics Courses
This page will assist you in selecting the proper Math course for which you are best prepared and in which you will have the greatest chance for success. A counselor and/or a mathematics instructor can help you make the best choice. Be sure to look at the College of the Redwoods' catalog for additional information. Contact the Counseling Center for specific prerequisite information for the mathematics course in which you wish to enroll or Call (707) 476-4150. Normal Office hours: Monday (8:30 am - 6 pm), Tuesday (10 am - 6 pm), Wednesday (8:30 am - 5 pm), Thursday (8:30 am - 5 pm), and Friday (8 am - 4 pm).

There are 2 ways to "meet" prerequisites to enroll in a Mathematics course:
- Complete the stated prerequisite course (at CR or another college) with a "C" or better. For example, Math 380, completed with a "C" grade, meets the prerequisite for Math 120.
- Complete the assessment process in the Academic Support Center (ASC) in the Learning Resource Center (campus library). For more information on testing and placement procedures, visit the following link:

- If you are trying to decide whther to take Arithmetic (Math 372), Pre-Algebra (Math 376) or Elementary Algebra (Math 380), follow the Pre-Algebra/Elementary Algebra link.
- If you are trying to decide whether to take Elementary Algebra (Math 380) or Intermediate Algebra (Math 120), follow the Elementary/ Intermediate Algebra link.
- If you are trying to decide whether to take Contemporary Math (Math 5) or Statistics (Math 15), follow the Math 5 or Math 15 link.
- If you are trying to decide whether to take Trigonometry (Math 25) or College Algebra (Math 30), follow the Math 25 or Math 30 link.
