Welcome To Mathematics!
The mathematics department at College of the Redwoods offers a sequence of developmental mathematics courses in college arithmetic, prealgebra, elementary algebra, and intermediate algebra. In addition to its work in developmental mathematics, the department also offers coursework required for transfer to universities. A National Science Foundation Grant awarded in 1996 provided support that allowed the department to develop innovative curricula in capstone courses such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. By taking the appropriate courses offered by the department, students in mathematics, science, and engineering can prepare themselves to transfer to a four-year institution with advanced standing.
Upcoming Events
- On Friday, February 29, Rhonda Geldin, HSU's Assistant Director of Admissions and CR Liaison to Humboldt State University, will give a Special Presentation to CR students in the Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Division on the transfer process to HSU. She will offer insights on the admissions process, majors, and life on the HSU campus. This special event will take place at 4:00 pm in room PS113 in the Physical Sciences building. We are offering free pizza. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the transfer process to HSU.
- Comments requested: The MSE Division has recently proposed a new two-year schedule for core courses in Math, Science, and Engineering. Please study the schedule and send us comments by Friday, January 29. Thanks!
- On March 9, the New Daylight Saving Time begins for 2008. Remember to "Spring Ahead" those alarm clocks.
- March 14 is Pi Day.
- April is Math Awareness Month. The theme for 2008 is Math and Voting.
- On April 2nd we will videotape What's Goin On? for Math Awareness Month -- Join Us! Contact Tami Matsumoto for more information on this fun event.
- On April 26, the Humboldt Mathematics Festival will be held at the Bayshore Mall from 10 am until 2 pm. Come join us!
- On May 9, the MSE division will hold its annual end-of-the-year barbecue, from approximately noon until 3 pm. You can view Photos of Last Spring's BBQ.
