Residency
Residency status is determined by the Admissions and Records Office
In accordance with California State laws, the Admissions and Records Office at College of the Redwoods will determine each student's residency status upon receipt of their admissions application. More broadly, a student's residency status will be determined as either a resident or a nonresident of California. Students are notified about their residency status via their CR student Email account after their admissions application has been processed.
Residency status directly affects your cost to attend College of the Redwoods
Please visit our Tuition and Fees page for current tuition and fees for residents and nonresidents.
View the 2022/2023 Cost of Attendance for information about the total estimated costs.
Students can request a re-evaluation of their current nonresident status
Students deemed nonresidents of California may request a re-evaluation of their residency status by submitting a Residency Reclassification Request, a California Nonresident Tuition Exemption or an Oregon Exchange Program Application, see below for more information. Students must request a re-evaluation of their nonresident status before the semester ends however, it is strongly recommended to request a re-evaluation at least three weeks before the semester begins.
Oregon Exchange Students
College of the Redwoods offers reciprocity agreements that allow eligible Oregon residents to attend CR and eligible California residents to attend Southern Oregon University or Oregon Institute of Technology at a reduced tuition rate
Residence Reclasssification Request
Students who have resided in California for at least 366 days, or one year and one day, prior to the start of the semester may qualify to have their nonresident status reclassified as a resident of California by submitting the required Residency Reclassification Request (link provided below) and all supporting documentation to the Admissions and Records Office.
To apply, submit a completed Residency Reclassification Request, and supporting documentation, to CR's Admissions and Records Office:
