Obtaining a Login Name and Password

In order to edit the pages that follow with your contributions to the problem solving process, you must first have a login and password. To obtain a login and password, send an email request to david-arnold@redwoods.edu, bruce-wagner@redwoods.edu, or tami-matsumoto@redwoods.edu. In your email, state what you want as a login name and password. When your login and password are returned to you, be sure to write them down and keep them in a safe place.

Logging into the Wiki

Once you obtain your login and password, click on the login link in the top right-hand corner of the wiki page. Enter your login name and password. You are now allowed to edit Pizza and Problems wiki pages! Cool.

How to Edit a Page

There are a number of good sources that explain how to edit a Wiki page.

  • First, there is Help:Wiki Markup, which is a very short guide to learning wiki markup.
  • Second, the complete users guide can be found at User's Guide.

How to Edit Mathematics

The Wiki understands a subset of the TeX and LaTeX language, so it's possible to typeset some pretty impressive mathematics. For a complete list of what is possible, please consult Help:Displaying a Formula.

With a little practice, you will be up and typesetting mathematics in no time. Just enclose your mathematics in math tags, as follows:

<math> \frac{x}{2}\sqrt{x^2+4} </math>

When you save your page, the result will look as follows:

\frac{x}{2}\sqrt{x^2+4}

Your are good to go!

Embedding Images

You might have reason to embed a graphic to help your argument or proof. Embedding an image is a two-step process.

  1. Upload your image.
  2. Reference your image

To upload your image, note the "Upload file" link in the toolbox in the left margin. Click this link, choose the file you want to upload from your system, then give it a "Destination" name. I usually use the same filename for my destination image name. That is, if my image has filename newton.jpg, then I will give it a destination name newton.jpg.

Once your image file is uploaded, include it in your wiki page with the following code:
